As far as upcoming events go that would be a choice target but the high security would probably make it less desirable and lower the chances of a successful attack.

True. My reply may have been hasty.

And, there are plenty of opportunities aside from the event itself to attack someone notable.

I think it was very brazen in Yemen after the attack that killed the 2 South Koreans, the convoy of South Korean officials that went to investigate were also attacked, without injury.
