What is required to capture Tv cable to to my computer? [Archive]

I'm clueless as usual.

I have one TV / Cable box just a few feet from my computer, and would like to start compiling some programs.

I do have a TIVO like unit in another room, but the use for connecting the PC to cable is so I can edit.
