These tips might help you become a better gamer.

Go to control panel -> mouse -> pointer options
Untick the "Enhance pointer precision". It works contrary to its name.

If you have a driver for your mouse such as Logitech setpoint for Logitech mice or a Razer driver, make sure all mouse acceleration is turned off .

Now on to the more advanced stuff:

CPL Mouse Fix

This is the CPL mouse fix. It changes registry entries to remove a slight mouse acceleration that is hard-coded into Windows. It's made for XP so you might not want to try this one if you're running a different OS. There is a counter file also, if anyone needs it i can post the link for that too.

The reason why it's so important to remove all mouse acceleration for gaming is that this allows your brain to learn your sensitivity, as it is constant. With mouse acceleration enabled the actual movement of the cursor is not proportional to the amount of movement you apply with your hand, hence making you move the cursor too far or too short in alot of situations.

USB Mouse Rate

Mouse rate. This program allows you to change the rate at which windows polls the USB ports using a registry change. Normally this setting is set at 125Hz, or once every 8ms. With this program you can change it to 250(4ms), 500(2ms), 1000(1ms), and back to 125 again.

The effect you obtain by increasing the USB port polling rate is the cursor reacting quicker when you move the mouse, and being more in sync with your hand movements (flicking back and forth etc).
Not all motherboards will like this, and i've read about people having their USB ports cease to work when trying the 1000Hz setting, and having to reinstall their chipset drivers to fix it. However, it won't cause any permanent damage.

Many people call this "overclocking your mouse". Technically that's not what you're doing. What you in reality are doing is increasing the amount of times per second the CPU obtains new information from your USB ports. If your mouse only were to send information to the USB port ever 8ms this fix wouldn't have any effect.
If you have a mouse such as the Logitech MX518, MX300, MX500, Razer Diamondback, Microsoft intellimouse 3.0, using this fix will definetely help you. (You can gain effect with almost any mouse)

I'd also like to mention that because this fix effects CPU activity it can cause a slight hit in performance, but nothing noticable if you have an alright PC.

I believe that some newer mice such as the Razer Deathadder have a similar setting in the driver that comes with it, and if that's the case you won't need this fix.

If you would like to check that the polling rate is working properly you can download http://rapidshare.com/files/49472613/mouserate.exe.html
Just move your mouse over the area with some fast movements and check the readings.
