NCRI - The following is a statement by the Secretariat of the NCRI released on March 8, 2007:

During a summit of EU heads of states in Brussels, thirty thousand Iranians living in exile strongly condemned the Council of Ministers' defiance of a ruling by the Court of First Instance of the European Communities annulling terrorist designation of the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI). They called on the heads of EU states to comply with the court ruling.

In the gathering of supporters of the Iranian Resistance and the PMOI, the participants described efforts to maintain the PMOI in the terror list as part of the shameful policy of appeasement of the medieval regime ruling Iran.

Dozens of parliamentarians from different European countries expressed their solidarity with the Iranian people and their Resistance by joining the demonstration today. In a conference prior to the demonstration, the parliamentarians presented statements signed by 1,000 members of parliaments from 23 European countries condemning Council of Ministers' defiance of the Court ruling.

In their statements, the parliamentarians reiterated that while the religious, terrorist dictatorship ruling Iran threatening peace and security in the region and the world by its efforts to acquire nuclear weapons, increasing meddling in Iraq and warmongering in Lebanon, the EU's approach practically means its participation in suppression of the Iranian opposition and preventing change in Iran. They also described EU's approach as a green light for spread of fundamentalism and terrorism and an opportunity for the mullahs to acquire nuclear weapons which has regretfully placed the region and the world in a dangerous crisis with a devastating war in prospect.

They reminded that the decision by the Council of Ministers not only made a mockery of the rule of law but also stepped over all the values and principles upon which Europe is built upon.

In a speech in the demonstration, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran said: "The ruling by the European Court of Justice endorsed the legitimacy of the Iranian people's struggle and is considered as the victory of all Iranian people. Defiance of the court ruling by the EU is an open animosity against a nation who is longing for freedom. This is an astonishing breach of law, mockery of human rights and suppression of justice."

"To the international community, the United States and Europe, we offer a nuclear free Iran in peace and security, respecting democracy and human rights, stable and constructive, in friendship and coexistence with developing economy. A country that would respect international law and conventions. This is not only ideal for us and our people, but is also their desperate need and desire," Rajavi added.

At the end of the demonstration, a delegation of parliamentarians and political figures met with officials of the European Union at its headquarters raising the demands of the demonstrators.
