He came in 3rd place in the last American Idol. I think he's got an amazing voice. He can sing anything. He tears up Moody's Mood For Love and funkified Queen's Somebody To Love. He can belt Stevie Wonder and Donnie Hathaway and sounds good whatever he sings. He absolutely blew Elvis fans away with his renditions of Trouble and If I Can Dream.
Part of what I really love about this singer is that he is SO humble and a genuinely nice person. He was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes as a child and has to wear an insulin pump and he's 90% deaf in one ear. He recently finished up recording a song called "The Storm" which 20% of proceeds will go to Hurricane Katrina relief and another 20% will go to the Juvenille Diabetes Foundation of America.
He's a scrawny kinda goofy Jewish white boy who was a high school drop out, was working as a clerk in a drug store when his family and friends convinced him to try out for American Idol. Now he has two record labels jockeying to get him to sign a deal with them. I think it's really cool that his very first song he's donating almost half the proceeds to charity. I'm going to post links to online files where you can see or hear him sing. Keep an eye out for "The Storm" by Elliott Yamin, due to be released in January!
