Do you think it’s time we stopped discussing root causes? Because the last time I checked, Canada was an obnoxiously multiculti, socialist-oriented nation replete with national healthcare and hate speech laws.

That didn’t seem to stop them from having several cells of homegrown terrorists try to blow up Canadian civilians. Why? Gee. Every one of the arrestees was Muslim. Can you think of a reason?

Police have arrested 17 people and foiled a series of terrorist attacks on targets in southern Ontario, the RCMP said today.

The RCMP have charged 12 Ontario men who were to appear in court later today in Brampton. The men range in age from 19 to 43, and are residents of Toronto, Mississauga and Kingston.

Five youths who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act have also been arrested and charged.

The announcement came at a news conference following a series of arrests Friday night on a group that the Mounties say posed a “real and serious threat.”

In addition to the arrests, police recovered three tonnes of ammonium nitrate, a commonly used fertilizer used in the making of explosives.

“It was their intent to use it for a terrorist attack,” said RCMP Asst. Commissioner Mike McDonell. “If I can put this in context for you, the 1995 bombing of the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City that killed 168 people was completed with only one tonne of ammonium nitrate.”

“This group posed a real and serious threat,” he added. “It had the capacity and intent to carry out these acts.

So let’s check the tally. Jihadis in London arrested yesterday. Jihadis in Canada arrested today.

Does anyone doubt that we are truly in a global terrorist war? WWIV has been ongoing since before 9/11, but 9/11 was the day it was announced to the world.

We have a long way to go. And the Cindy Sheehans of the world are not helping.

Message from Afghanistan to Canuckistan (http://www.ottawasun.com/News/Columnists/McRae_Earl/2006/06/06/1616535-sun.html)

Now, CSIS, the RCMP, and the various police forces involved say the 17 arrested in Toronto were plotting terrorist attacks in Ontario, one of the targets the Parliament Buildings in Ottawa. He pulls out a snapshot. It shows four small boys in a dusty lot, one of them holding a soccer ball.

"That's me, and that's my cousin. He's still in Afghanistan. I won't tell you what he does. All I will tell you is that he knows all about terrorism and how the Taliban works. I do, too."

He puts the snapshot back in his pocket. "I don't understand Canadians. I heard people call the radio station criticizing CSIS and the police. It is like the people arrested are the good ones, it is a big mistake. Why do so many people here always go on the side of the people arrested instead of those fighting terrorism? CSIS and the police should be thanked, not attacked.

"If you are innocent then please explain to me what innocent people are doing with all the many things for explosives they had hidden. Does this sound like innocent matters to you? Wake up, Canadians, wake up."

The Northern Border and the Maple Leaf Jihad. (http://tigerhawk.blogspot.com/2006/06/northern-border-and-maple-leaf-jihad.html)

Some history ...

Refugees who have sought and received sanctuary in Canada have included members of ethnic militant groups, such as Algeria's Armed Islamic Group, various Palestinian factions (including Hamas), Hezbollah, the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam and Babbar Khalsa, a Sikh group. Many of these groups use Canada as a place of refuge, and most use it as a base for fundraising and political activity. However, some of those granted asylum have gone on to commit terrorist attacks.

Perhaps the most notorious of the cases (and certainly the most controversial) involving Canada were the twin bombings of Air India Flights 182 and 301, carried out by Babbar Khalsa in 1985. The bomb on Flight 182 exploded over the Atlantic Ocean and killed all 329 people aboard; the bomb placed on Flight 301 exploded on the ground at Narita Airport in Japan, killing two baggage handlers. There were several arrests in each case but only one man, Inderjit Singh Reyat, was ever convicted. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison on charges related to the Narita bombing in 1991; in 2001, he was charged and pleaded guilty to his role in the Flight 182 bombing, for which he received an additional five-year sentence. As part of the plea agreement, Reyat was expected to testify in the trial of two other Flight 182 suspects. However, he later claimed he could not remember anything, and the suspects were acquitted in March 2005.

And then of course ... The Millennium Bomb Plot
