-----------------------------------------------------
HIS EXCELLENCY, Dr. Per Stig Mّller the minister
of the foreign affairs of the Denmark Peace be upon those who follow
the true guidance: I have reviewed what some of the news agencies dealt
with concerning the Danish news agency Jyllands-Posten had published,
which I believe it to be a heinous mistake and dreadful deviation from
the path of justice, reverence and equality. The said agency published
12 cartoon caricatures on the 30th of September, 2005, ridiculing
Mohammed , the messenger of Islam. One of these cartoons pictures
Allah's Messenger PBUH, wearing a turban that resembles a bomb wrapped
around his head. What a pathetic projection! I was extremely saddened
to read such news.
I personally visited the site of the agency on the net.
I examined the size of the blundering scandal it was. On Sept 29th,
2005 issue of , Jyllands-Posten, I saw and read dreadful news and
cartoons.
The news and the cartoons were horrifying and extremely disturbing to
me.
I believe al Muslims who read, viewed or learned about this news were
equally saddened, disappointed and disturbed. All criticized such work
and felt awful and dismayed about it. Similarly, I do believe that all
sane and wise people, I believe, would feel the same about it.
The contemporary world is witnessing today great much confusion all
over. Innocent blood is being shed. Innocent lives are being harvested
by oppression and transgression. We are in utmost need to spread peace,
justice and love all over the world. We need to call for the respect
and reverence of all Divine and heavenly Messages and Scriptures. By
doing so, we would be able to preserve the divine messages and
demonstrate love, appreciation and reverence to the Prophets and
Messengers of Allah, the Almighty to this world.
We would further help to preserve the souls, honor and belongings of
all mankind all-over-the-world. We would further demonstrate the
respect and honor of the human rights all over the world.
The claim of Jyllands-Posten newspaper that they allow, promote and
practice freedom-of-speech, by publishing cartoons ridiculing Mohammed
the Prophet of Islam, is a non-convincing claim. All worlds'
constitutions and international organizations insist on and demand to
respect all the Prophets and Messengers of Allah, the Almighty.
Moreover, they confirm the necessity to respect the Divine Messages,
respect others and do not attack the privacy, dignity and honor and
principles of others. In the International World Federation Council of
media and press people, it is stated:
) Media people must be alert of risks that may arise as a result of
prejudice and discrimination implied by the media. The Council would
exert every possible effort to avoid being involved in such calls,
which are based on prejudice and religion, sex or other social
differences discrimination. A media man may commit a dangerous
professional deviation such as: claiming other's work,
ill-interpretation of facts, false accusations of others, condemning
others for no basis, accusing others with their integrity and honor for
no sound basis or accepting bribes to either publish or prevent the
publishing of specific materials. A noteworthy media-person should
believe that it is their duty to give an honest attention to the
aforementioned items, and through the general framework of the law in
each country.
) Therefore, we also base our opinion and/or statements
herein on an honest and sound media proclamation requesting the Danish
newspaper to apologize for what they did. The proclamations states:
"The media person would exert every possible effort to correct, modify
any published information that he/she noticed that they are inaccurate
and/or harmful to others." Undoubtedly, what the Danish newspaper;
Jyllands-Posten published is harmful not only for more than two hundred
thousand Danish citizen, but also to more than
one-billion-three-hundred-million Muslims along with others who are
fair and just people. All these hurt people honor, respect and love
Mohammed the Prophet. This action will continue to hurt and harm all
Muslims so long we live on the face-of-this-earth. Denmark, if does not
deal with this problem on a fair ground, will also continue to be a
source of harm and convulsion to many Muslims. This is because of the
mentality of some Danish individuals who are anti-prophets, messengers
and divine messages. We would like to remind also with the decree which
the Human Rights Agency in the United Nations adopted on the 12th of
April, 2005. This decree insisted on the ban of distortions and vicious
attacks against religions and especially Islam; which had been strongly
attacked in the last few years.
Finally, I would like to inform you that all Muslims will certainly
stop their commercial business dealing with Denmark until they openly
and officially apologize for the shameful attack to the person of
Allah's Messenger SAAW by Jyllands-Posten newspaper.

A newspaper that published cartoons of the Prophet, one of which pictured a bomb hidden in his turban, apologized on Monday for offending Muslims.
Islam bans any depiction of the Prophet Muhammad or Allah.
The backlash has included a boycott of Danish goods, diplomatic sanctions, and Islamic militant threats.

Gunmen storm EU office to protest Danish cartoons
Militants bar danes, norwegians from gaza
Compiled by Daily Star staff
Gunmen demonstrated Monday in front of EU offices in Gaza, saying Danes and Norwegians were barred from the Palestinian territory until Copenhagen apologized for caricatures of the Prophet Mohammad.
In Gaza City, Palestinian gunmen burst into the EU office, then withdrew several minutes later. A group of about 15 masked men, armed with hand grenades, automatic weapons and anti-tank launchers, remained outside, keeping the offices closed. No shots were fired.
The gunmen left the building after about half an hour. The Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades claimed responsibility.
"We are calling on the citizens of the two countries to take this threat seriously because our cells are ready to implement this all over Gaza," said one of the militants.
A second demonstration organized by the radical Popular Resistance Committees in the same place shortly afterward saw participants stamp on a Danish flag before burning it along with the Norwegian standard.
"The Danish government doesn't want to apologies to Muslims for what they did to them," one of the demonstrators said.
"We belong to Fatah. We defend our religion. We ban Danes and Norwegians from entering the Gaza Strip until the Danish government apologizes."
Later Monday, Hamas called for Muslims around the world to boycott Danish products. Hamas said "the Protestant community in Denmark supported this racism under the slogan and allegation 'freedom of speech."' Residents in Gaza use milk powder, bitter chocolate and biscuits imported from Denmark.
The Danish-Palestinian Friendship Association said the threats were "reprehensible."
"They forget that the Nordic countries are among the biggest donors to Palestine and do a lot of social work in the area," a spokesman said.
"We recommended Danes in the West Bank to leave," said Denmark's representative in the territories, Rolf Holmboi, adding that nationals in the Gaza Strip had already complied with a call for them to depart.
Holmboi said Danes were asked to leave after flag burnings took place in Nablus and Hebron on Sunday.
Three Danes working at the Rafah terminal crossing from Gaza into Egypt had been told to go to their base in Israel while between 50 and 100 Danes remained in the West Bank and in occupied Arab East Jerusalem.
Holmboi said two tracts issued by militant groups, Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades and Islamic Jihad, had given Danes 48 to 72 hours to leave the territories, with security stepped up at the Danish mission in the West Bank town of Ramallah.
In Iraq, a militant group called on its members to attack any reachable Danish and Norwegian targets, in response to the publishing of the cartoons.
"We urge our units of the army of mujahideen to target whatever targets they can reach [belonging] to these two countries," an Internet statement posted by the group said.
"Everyone who wants to protect his religion ... should do his share in defending the Prophet Mohammad," said the statement, whose authenticity could not be verified. - Agencies

New requests to continue the cyber attacks today.
===========================================
Denmark subject of cyber-attacks
Most people following current affairs are probably by now aware, that a boycot of all things Danish (and Norwegian and Swedish, too, in some instances) is spreading in the ME. What hasnt been reported is, that Denmark has likewise come under cyber attack. From the paper Politiken friday:
Hacker attack paralyzed news media
A large number of Danish papers´ web versions have crashed. Suspicions immediately center on the hacker attacks being because of the Mohammed-drawings in Jyllands-Posten. ..
All the web media hit are hosted on the same servers at the internet company Metropol Online, owned by Berlingske (Danish publishing house). ..
Among the media hit is the homepage of Jyllands-Postens, www.jp.dk, which creates suspicions, that hackers are trying to hit the paper as part of the row over the papers´ Mohammed-drawings.
Casper Bruun Møller, team leader at Metropol Online, suspects, that it is a hacker attack.
"I cant say for certain, that it is an attack on jp.dk, but somebody is trying to bombard us with so many electronic requests, that we have a suspicion that it is a hacker attack", he says.
Other than Jyllands-Posten, also berlingske.dk, bt.dk, aok.dk and a number of local papers were hit by the attack, that overloaded the homepages to such an extent that they werent accessible for most of the evening. ..
Last night the media conglomerate JP/Politikens Hus, that amongst others publishes Jyllands-Posten, was also hit.
Jyllands-Posten has, for the last fourteen days, received 500-600 mails each day with content that relates directly to the 12 Mohammed-drawings, and during the night leading up to thursday, JP/Politikens Hus was hit by 75.000 spammails sent to an internal mail address.
The many mails delayed the mail systems for several hours, and the conglomerate´s IT-technicians are certain, that the many thousand mails hail from the Middle East.
And from the same paper sunday:
New hacker attack paralyzes Jyllands-Posten
The web version of Jyllands-Posten is off-line. Hackers pulled off another large attack on the website of the paper.
The web version of the paper Jyllands-Posten, www.jp.dk, has again been nocked to the ground. The web paper is under attack by hackers.
A new so-called distributed "denial of the service"-attack has hit the home page of Jyllands-Posten. The technical term means, that attackers in different parts of the world take control of computers all over the world. ..
These computers bombard the homepage with so many simultaneous requests, that it finally crashes.
So says Casper Bruun Møller, teamleader at Metropol Online, the internet company owned by Berlingske (Danish publishing house), on whose server Jyllands-Posten web version is located.
"Over the last couple days, there have been several distributed "denial of service" attacks against the homepage of Jyllands-Posten. We had a smallish attack early friday, a larger one friday evening, and not there is another attack brewing", says Casper Bruun Møller. ..
Since the attacks come from different computers all over the world, it is hard to find the source, which is why Casper Bruun Møller doesnt want to comment on, whether the attacks might be due to the papers´ Mohammed-drawings.
He says, that they currently are working on sorting out the enormous traffic directed at the site. And he hopes, that the home page will be running smoothely again later in the day.

It's still escalating. Although there has been an apology offered regarding the Muhammad caricatures, from what I am seeing the apology is not being accepted.

Fatwa against Danish troops
February 01, 2006
A FATWA appears to have been issued against Danish soldiers stationed in Iraq, the Danish defence ministry said today. "I can confirm that we've heard about the fatwa from a reliable source in Iraq ... so we believe it's true," Defence Minister Soeren Gade's spokesman Jacob Winther said. The report came amid rising Muslim anger over 12 cartoons published in Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten last September depicting the Prophet Mohammed. The crisis is threatening Danish trade relations with the Muslim world.
Danish flags have been burnt, products have been boycotted and threats of violence have been issued against Scandinavians in Muslim countries in recent days. Both Jyllands-Posten and a Norwegian Christian magazine that republished the drawings earlier this month have received death threats.
Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari summoned Denmark's ambassador today to hear Iraq's condemnation of the cartoons, including a portrayal of the prophet wearing a time-bomb shaped turban. Islam considers any image of the prophet blasphemous.
Denmark has 530 soldiers in Iraq, mainly stationed in the south under British command. Mr Winther said Danish troops had been put on higher alert, but that the military did not yet know how worried to be. "We don't know what kind of a fatwa it is, whether it's just a religious ruling of a death threat or what it is," he said, adding: "I don't think it's good."

Armed militants threaten Europeans in cartoon uproar
February 02, 2006
Two armed Palestinian groups threatened to target European nationals in the Middle East in the escalating furore over cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed, as a French newspaper editor was sacked for printing them. The Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades and the Popular Resistance Committee warned that "all nationals and those who work in the diplomatic corps" of Denmark Norway and France "can be considered targets." The two groups threatened to destroy all local offices and consulates of the three states unless they closed, and called for a Muslim boycott of Danish merchandise to be extended to France and Norway.
Gunmen besieged the European Union's Gaza City headquarters early Thursday, scrawling the words "Closed Until Further Notice" on its door. Norway announced that it had closed its West Bank mission in response the threats, and was taking them "very seriously"....
In Egypt, the state-owned Al-Gomhurriya newspaper decried the cartoon's publication as a "conspiracy" and warned that "any attack against our prophet will not go unpunished", while Tunisia joined Morocco in banning sales of France Soir.
The head of Lebanon's fundamentalist Hezbollah movement, Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah, drew a link to the 1989 fatwa, or Islamic sentence, issued against British writer Salman Rushdie by Iran's Ayatollah Khomeini. "If there had been a Muslim to carry out the fatwa of Imam Khomeini against the renegade Salman Rushdie, the scum who are insulting our Prophet Mohammed in Denmark, Norway and France would not dare do so," he said. The Danish authorities should be aware that "there are millions of Muslims who are ready to defend the honour of their religion and their prophet," he warned.

More European Papers Print Cartoons of Muhammad, Fueling Dispute With Muslims
February 2, 2006
... Carsten Juste, the editor in chief of Jyllands-Posten, said the principle to be drawn from the debate was that opponents of press freedom had secured a victory. "My guess is that no one will draw the Prophet Muhammad in Denmark in the next generation, and therefore I must say with deep shame that they have won," he said in an interview with the Danish newspaper Berlingske Tiden.

There is a claim here
http://counterterror.typepad.com/the_counterterrorism_blog/2006/02/fabricated_cart.html
that in November a Palestinian imam in Denmark showed to an Arab group a set of cartoons, which included the famous 12 but which also included some especially offensive fabrications of his own, e.g. one which portrayed Mohammed as a pig. That would explain the delayed reaction to the cartoons. His audience seems to have included Yusuf al-Qaradawi (a long-famous trouble-maker) plus the secretary of the Arab League.

Jihad call spreads on Internet amid Prophet cartoon row
February 3, 2006
PARIS -- Muslim extremists are using the furor over the Prophet Mohammed cartoons published in European newspapers to rally the faithful to a jihad (holy war), in several Internet postings.
"Brothers, it's war against Islam ..., grab your swords," says hardline Saudi cleric Sheikh Badr Bin Nader Al Mashari in a voice recording posted on an Islamist Website.
He said that the cartoons - first published by a Danish newspaper in September with several other European papers following suit over the past week - are "part of the war waged by the decadent West against the triumphant Islam".
"To the billion Muslims: where are your arms? Your enemies have trampled on the Prophet. Rise up," screamed the sheikh, who is the imam of a mosque in Riyadh, amid the cries of the faithful listening to his speech.
Muslim bloggers even launched a Website, www.no4denmark.com, exhorting the faithful to boycott Danish products.
Danish dairy products have already been banned from supermarkets in most Arab countries in the wake of the crisis.
But many bloggers said that trade sanctions will lead nowhere, calling for a more militant response.
"Boycotts and messages of indignation instead of bombs and explosives," lamented female blogger Ashiqat Al Jihad (lover of the holy war) in one posting.
Another blogger singled out France, where the left-leaning paper Liberation reprinted two of the controversial cartoons.
The influential Le Monde also splashed a cartoon of the Prophet on its front page on Thursday, a day after France Soir reproduced all of the original cartoons that appeared in the Danish paper Jyllands-Posten citing its right to free expression.
"Our Prophet was insulted again by France. The boycott will accomplish nothing. We need bombs and explosives," said another blogger under the pseudonym Abu Badr.
A blogger using the name Ubda called on Islamic militants in Iraq, Palestine and Chechnya not to spare any Danes and Norwegians that they come across.
"Slit their throats in the style of [Abu Mussab] Al Zarqawi," he said referring to Iraq's most-wanted militant and leader of Al Qaeda in the war-torn country.
London-based Arab newspaper Al Quds Al Arabi published on Thursday a statement attributed to an Al Qaeda linked group, the Brigades of Abu Hafs Al Masri, warning Denmark and all those who insult the Prophet with a "bloody war".
"The infidels must know that the coming days will see a bloody war and a series of blessed conquests," said the statement.
Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen said on Friday after meeting with foreign diplomats including the ambassadors of 11 Muslim countries that his government could not apologize for the cartoons on behalf of a newspaper given Copenhagen's strong tradition of free speech.
"A Danish government can never apologize on behalf of a free and independent newspaper," he said.
Many influential clerics and government officials across the Arab world have demanded a clear and unequivocal apology from the Copenhagen government as well as Danish newspaper.
In an interview broadcast on Saudi-owned satellite television Al Arabiya on Thursday, Rasmussen said that he was "deeply distressed" over the row caused by the cartoons and called for calm when asked whether he was concerned about terrorist attacks against Denmark.
"I have a strong appeal to all groups that we do our utmost to cool down tempers and feelings," he said.

Plea to bin Laden to retaliate
Posted by: worldanalysis on Feb 03, 2006 - 10:27 PM
Tens of thousands of Sudanese demonstrators in Khartoum filled a downtown square, calling for a boycott of goods from Denmark after the publication of controversial cartoons of the prophet Muhammad.
Some shouted: "You Danish Satan, the Muslim people are now out after you!" Some even shouted for al Qaida leader Osama bin Laden to retaliate for the insult to their prophet.
"Strike, strike, strike, bin Laden!" the frenzied group chanted.
Demonstrators wrapped a copy of a Danish flag around a donkey - regarded as a symbol of stupidity - and hoisted it as the crowd jeered.
Then they tore off the flag and burned it.
"We are ready to die in defence of you our beloved prophet," yelled the crowd.
Witnesses said nearly 50,000 people took part, but it was impossible to independently estimate the number.

Palestinian Refugees Called on Osama Bin Laden and Abu Musab al Zarqawi to Protect the Islam
Posted by: worldanalysis on Feb 03, 2006 - 10:23 PM
3 February 2006 | 20:21 | FOCUS News Agency
Ain el-Helweh. Palestinian refugees enraged over the publication in Europe of cartoons of the Muslim Prophet Mohammed called Friday on Al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden and his lieutenant in Iraq, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, to defend Islam, AFP reported.
"Punish those who have wronged Islam!" shouted Abu Sharif, head of the Sunni Muslim fundamentalist group Osbat al-Ansar to a group of more than 6,000 people assembled after Friday prayers in the Ein el-Helweh refugee camp, many of them brandishing portraits of the two Al-Qaeda leaders.

Rallies by rabble such as those of Ein Hilwe (which is blockaded by the Lebanese) and al-Ghurabaa (a.k.a. Jihad on the Dole) are unimportant. But it's possible that some senior cleric will attempt to instigate random murder, as Ahmed Yassin often did, and the get the result that Yassin got -- death from above. If that happens in KSA, Jeddah is the most likely location. That town is crawling with bloodthirsty "Islamic scholars". But KSA is unlikely. I'll be watching other guys, especially Yusuf al-Qaradawi in the Emirates.
Here's another illustration of what does not matter: the rioting in Gaza. These cartoons are obviously just the latest excuse for the same self-pitying victim-trip and the same pointless chaotic violence that is the life story of the Palestinians. (OT, the Israelis aren't in Gaza to babysit the locals any longer, and civil war there is inevitable. Since the withdrawal, I have not heard of a single Jordanian or Lebanese "Palestinian refugee" relocating to Gaza.)

6-2: INTERVIEW WITH AYAAN HIRSI ALI
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
'Everyone Is Afraid to Criticize Islam'
Ayaan Hirsi Ali, the Dutch politician forced to go into hiding after the murder of filmmaker Theo van Gogh, responds to the Danish cartoon scandal, arguing that if Europe doesn't stand up to extremists, a culture of self-censorship of criticism of Islam that pervades in Holland will spread in Europe. Auf Wiedersehen, free speech.
Ayaan Hirsi Ali is one of the most sharp- tongued critics of political Islam - - and a target of radical fanatics. Her provocative film "Submission" led to the assassination of director Theo van Gogh in November 2004. The attackers left a death threat against Hirsi Ali stuck to his corpse with a knife. After a brief period in hiding, the 36- year- old member of Dutch parliament from the neo- liberal VVD party has returned to parliament and is continuing her fight against Islamism. She recently published a book, "I Accuse," and is working on a sequel to "Submission."
Hirsi Ali was born in Somalia where she experienced the oppression of Muslim women first hand. When her father attempted to force her into an arranged marriage, she fled to Holland in 1992. Later, she renounced the Muslim religion. more...
SPIEGEL: Hirsi Ali, you have called the Prophet Muhammad a tyrant and a pervert. Theo van Gogh, the director of your film "Submission," which is critical of Islam, was murdered by Islamists. You yourself are under police protection. Can you understand how the Danish cartoonists feel at this point?
Hirsi Ali: "The cartoons should be displayed everywhere." They probably feel numb. On the one hand, a voice in their heads is encouraging them not to sell out their freedom of speech. At the same time, they're experiencing the shocking sensation of what it's like to lose your own personal freedom. One mustn't forget that they're part of the postwar generation, and that all they've experienced is peace and prosperity. And now they suddenly have to fight for their own human rights once again.
SPIEGEL: Why have the protests escalated to such an extent?
Hirsi Ali: There is no freedom of speech in those Arab countries where the demonstrations and public outrage are being staged. The reason many people flee to Europe from these places is precisely because they have criticized religion, the political establishment and society. Totalitarian Islamic regimes are in a deep crisis. Globalization means that they're exposed to considerable change, and they also fear the reformist forces developing among émigrés in the West. They'll use threatening gestures against the West, and the success they achieve with their threats, to intimidate these people.
SPIEGEL: Was apologizing for the cartoons the wrong thing to do?
Hirsi Ali: Once again, the West pursued the principle of turning first one cheek, then the other. In fact, it's already a tradition. In 1980, privately owned British broadcaster ITV aired a documentary about the stoning of a Saudi Arabian princess who had allegedly committed adultery. The government in Riyadh intervened and the British government issued an apology. We saw the same kowtowing response in 1987 when (Dutch comedian) Rudi Carrell derided (Iranian revolutionary leader) Ayatollah Khomeini in a comedy skit (that was aired on German television). In 2000, a play about the youngest wife of the Prophet Mohammed, titled "Aisha," was cancelled before it ever opened in Rotterdam. Then there was the van Gogh murder and now the cartoons. We are constantly apologizing, and we don't notice how much abuse we're taking. Meanwhile, the other side doesn't give an inch.
SPIEGEL: What should the appropriate European response look like?
Hirsi Ali: There should be solidarity. The cartoons should be displayed everywhere. After all, the Arabs can't boycott goods from every country. They're far too dependent on imports. And Scandinavian companies should be compensated for their losses. Freedom of speech should at least be worth that much to us.
SPIEGEL: But Muslims, like any religious community, should also be able to protect themselves against slander and insult.
Hirsi Ali: That's exactly the reflex I was just talking about: offering the other cheek. Not a day passes, in Europe and elsewhere, when radical imams aren't preaching hatred in their mosques. They call Jews and Christians inferior, and we say they're just exercising their freedom of speech. When will the Europeans realize that the Islamists don't allow their critics the same right? After the West prostrates itself, they'll be more than happy to say that Allah has made the infidels spineless.
SPIEGEL: What will be the upshot of the storm of protests against the cartoons?
Hirsi Ali: We could see the same thing happening that has happened in the Netherlands, where writers, journalists and artists have felt intimidated ever since the van Gogh murder. Everyone is afraid to criticize Islam. Significantly, "Submission" still isn't being shown in theaters.
SPIEGEL: Many have criticized the film as being too radical and too offensive.
Hirsi Ali: The criticism of van Gogh was legitimate. But when someone has to die for his world view, what he may have done wrong is no longer the issue. That's when we have to stand up for our basic rights. Otherwise we are just reinforcing the killer and conceding that there was a good reason to kill this person.
SPIEGEL: You too have been accused for your dogged criticism of Islam.
Hirsi Ali: Oddly enough, my critics never specify how far I can go. How can you address problems if you're not even allowed to clearly define them? Like the fact that Muslim women at home are kept locked up, are raped and are married off against their will -- and that in a country in which our far too passive intellectuals are so proud of their freedom!
SPIEGEL: The debate over speaking Dutch on the streets and the integration programs for potentially violent Moroccan youth -- do these things also represent the fruits of your provocations?
Hirsi Ali: The sharp criticism has finally triggered an open debate over our relationship with Muslim immigrants. We have become more conscious of things. For example, we are now classifying honor killings by the victims' countries of origin. And we're finally turning our attention to young girls who are sent against their wills from Morocco to Holland as brides, and adopting legislation to make this practice more difficult.
SPIEGEL: You're working on a sequel to "Submission." Will you stick to your uncompromising approach?
Hirsi Ali: Yes, of course. We want to continue the debate over the Koran's claim to absoluteness, the infallibility of the Prophet and sexual morality. In the first part, we portrayed a woman who speaks to her god, complaining that despite the fact that she has abided by his rules and subjugated herself, she is still being abused by her uncle. The second part deals with the dilemma into which the Muslim faith plunges four different men. One hates Jews, the second one is gay, the third is a bon vivant who wants to be a good Muslim but repeatedly succumbs to life's temptations, and the fourth is a martyr. They all feel abandoned by their god and decide to stop worshipping him.
SPIEGEL: Will recent events make it more difficult to screen the film?
Hirsi Ali: The conditions couldn't be more difficult. We're forced to produce the film under complete anonymity. Everyone involved in the film, from actors to technicians, will be unrecognizable. But we are determined to complete the project. The director didn't really like van Gogh, but he believes that, for the sake of free speech, shooting the sequel is critical. I'm optimistic that we'll be able to premier the film this year.
SPIEGEL: Is the Koran's claim to absoluteness, which you criticize in "Submission," the central obstacle to reforming Islam?
Hirsi Ali: The doctrine stating that the faith is inalterable because the Koran was dictated by God must be replaced. Muslims must realize that it was human beings who wrote the holy scriptures. After all, most Christians don't believe in hell, in the angels or in the earth having been created in six days. They now see these things as symbolic stories, but they still remain true to their faith.
